of forgiving sins to him (Luke 7:48–49; cf. Acts 5:31; Col. 1:13–14; Rev. 1:5–6), and says that in his death he makes purification for sins (Heb. 1:3). Because Jesus performs all these works that only God performs, he is equal with God. Fifth, Jesus consummates salvation. The Old Testament ascribes to God alone the prerogatives of putting people to death and making them alive (Deut. 32:39; 1 Sam. 2:6).
